17-year-old Abin is miss Nagaland

KOHIMA: Seventeen-year-old Abin has been chosen the most beautiful girl in Nagaland.
Abin from Peren edged out 12 contenders to be crowned Miss Nagaland, 2008 at a gala event on Saturday night here on the penultimate day of the annual Hornbill festival.
Among 13 contestants, who had earlier won the district-level beauty titles, Nyeie Leinak Phom from Longleng and Chumlano Kikon bagged the first and second runners-up titles.

Radio Misty FM soon on air in Sikkim

SILIGURI: Radio Misty Sikkim 95 FM, with BBC and Radio Netherland Worldwide as its partner, will soon be on air in Sikkim.
A state of the art studio is ready in Gangtok, the Sikkim capital and it will soon begin its service in Gangtok, Mr Nishant Mittal, CEO of the company, said here on Sunday.
Radio Misty which is aired in 94.3 MHz in Siliguri, has been allotted change in frequency for its Sikkim operations, he said.

Lou Majaw sings for Mizo famine victims

AIZAWL: It was a concert for a cause — to help the famine victims of Mizoram. Famous singer Lou Majaw’s band Great Society, 4th Element, Felix Ranee and the students of Mizo Modern Higher Secondary School, Shillong, sang for the Mizos affected by mautam (famine) caused by bamboo flowering, at a concert here last evening.

Guwahati to host International documentary Film Festival

GUWAHATI: Guwahati will host the International Film Festival for documentary, short and animation films for the first time. It will be organised jointly by the Films Division, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Assam State Film (Finance & Development) Corporation Limited (ASFFDC).
Addressing a press conference here yesterday Kuldeep Sinha, Chief Producer, Films Division said India would have its own ‘Museum of Moving Images’ very soon in Mumbai.

Darsheel’s second film focuses on militancy in Assam

MUMBAI: Priyadarshan says his Hindi adaptation of acclaimed Iranian film Children Of Heaven, which has Darsheel Safary in the lead role, has been set in the backdrop of militancy in Assam.
“I’m not blindly adapting Children Of Heaven. I’m moving completely away from the original material to set the story in Assam with the insurgency as the backdrop,” the director said.
